Pumpkin reigns at our tables from the end of September to the end of January. It is worth to eat it as often as possible, beacause it is full of vitamins and minerals.


It is low-calorie (10 dec has 28 kcal), it has high amount of beta-carotene, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, vitamins from B group and - essential in male's diet - zinc. What is also important, it has no sodium at all. It's compositions causes that pumpkin is irreplacable in diets, when curing hypertension and deacidify organism.

Eating pumpkin regulary enhances immune system. It is worth remembering that due to high glycemic index (IG=75) it should not be eatten by diabetics. Pumpkin is one of few vegetables, which after boiling doesn't lose it's valuable properties.

Which pumpkin should we choose in the shop? The best is mature one, which has beautiful, intensive color. Orange flash means that it has high amounts of vitamins: B1, PP and beta-carotene. After peeling the pumpkin and using it's flash to prepare one of delicious dishes, we can also use it's seeds. Dried ones have high amount of magnesium, phosphorus, manganese, zinc, saturated fatty acids and phytosterols.

Pumpkin can be prepared and served in may ways. The most popular is creamy soup with garlic, rosemary and pepper. We can also cook courgette-pumpkin pie or sesonal veggies mix and serve it with favourite meat. It is great for bakery - for example pumpkin muffins with cranberries and nuts, brioche or pumpkin tart with ricotta cheese and oranges. When mixing it with apples we can get delicius mousse, perfect to pancakes or bread. We can also prepare warming pumpkin spice latte.

During autumn and winter seasons pumpkin is not only a component of traditional dishes but also a symbol which can be found everywhere - on the tablecloths, mugs, various packaging and also clothes. From the pumpkin we can make lantern, which will warm cold and grey autumn evenings.
